son going back to school

I just read a post about someone discussing their "joy" in sending their child to school for the first time this year. My son is going back to school this year. He will be in the 5th grade. I AM NOT JOYED AND EXCITED ABOUT THIS. I cannot homeschool my son because most of the time I either can't think or wake up to teach him. I also cannot get him out of the house to go do exciting and educational things. The pain keeps me from scheduling play dates and fun things because I NEVER know when it will be too painful to drive or take him out. We used to take the trolley around San Diego, visit Farmer's Markets, and have lunch at Horton Plaza.

He's going back and I am VERY unhappy about it. I am worried about how things will go. I am hoping that this school system is better than the last one he was in.

I think parents, and companies, need to have shorter work days. I also think schools should be shortened. I don't think schools should have so much time with our children. Kids are missing out on the parenting, and the parent/child, connection they each deserve. Parents getting EXCITED to see their kids watched by someone else for up to 6 hours a day is sad. We should all cherish our children while they are still in our care, cause one day they grow up and we no longer get that time with them. Now, I am not saying that a break is not needed every now and then, but DAILY? for 6 hours a day? AND, don't they give you a break when they come home from school and then go out to play with their friends (when they are old enough of course)?

No two days are alike for me. I am going to miss him during the day, that at least will be constant.

Okay, well there is my rant for the day.
