Vonage - Not so good

Vonage - Not so good to deal with if you have phone issues.

We got Vonage. At first everything was okay. Then we start having issues. The biggest issue was when we would receive a call, we could hear the caller but the caller could not hear us. I went onto Vonages' website and followed all their instructions to attempt to fix this issue, but it would not fix. I contacted technical support and followed their instructions for fixing the issue, but again it would not fix.

So I canceled our service. Now I am being charged a disconnect fee (disconnect fees were never charged by Cox Communications when I left to go to Vonage) and I am being charged for the device that you get free/cheap to be able to receive calls. Are you ready for each charge? Disconnect fee: $39.99. Motorola phone box: $49.99.

90 bucks for a stupid box I cannot use. I have contacted Vonage on numerous occasions and apparently will be forced to pay for these charges, when in all fairness, I would still be with Vonage except for their lack of quality phone service. I canceled my payment with the bank and will pay them, however, they will receive $5.00/mth.

Here are the responses I receive from Greg Destro at Vonage. As you can see I had complained about my problem. They could not fix it and yet I will be charged for their faulty service. As I already stated, I will be paying the money due to them, however, they will get it in payments. I will also be contacting consumer affairs so that other people don't get taken advantage of over faulty service.

I am glad that people have success with Vonage. If you do, don't jump down my throat because I have had issues. I did what I was supposed to do to try and fix the problem. However, I was told, and read, on numerous occassions to reset the device to make it work. I should not have to reset the device on an every call, every hour, every minute, every day basis. I would get a call, have an issue, hang up, go reset the device, then call the caller back, and sometimes even that wouldn't work. So I am done with Vonage.

Dear Ms. ,
I am in receipt of your letter requesting a refund of your termination fees as you say you had unresolved audio issues. I did note that you sent an email to our tech support team on 11/11/08 and a response was sent the same day advising possible causes and suggested tests so that we could view the results and continue to troubleshoot your issue. However I do not see that any response to our suggested tests was provided so as a result we could not continue to troubleshoot your issue. Also, upon checking your billing history I noted that you had normal to high usage throughout your time with Vonage, so since the account was then canceled well after the Money Back Guarantee period and within one year of starting service both the Disconnection fee and Rebate Recovery fee are valid and the request for a refund is respectfully denied.
If you have any questions or need further information please feel free to contact our Customer Care department at 1-866-243-4357.

Dear Ms. ,
I noted in your reply that you say you intend to return the Vonage device and are disputing the charge for that device. Unfortunately per our Terms of Service(TOS)section 4.1 the device is only refundeable if the account is canceled within the 30 day Money Back Guarantee(MBG)period, and per TOS Section 8.8 the Rebate Recovery fee to recoup the instant rebate given at the time of sign-up is valid after that time whether the device is returned or not. As a result I would suggest that you don't use your valuable time and money to return the device as the Rebate Recovery fee is not refundable at this time.
If you have any questions or need further information please feel free to contact our Customer Care department at 1-866-243-4357. If you would like to review our Terms of Service please use the link below:
